The recipient has got through many a bag of the original kind, and as we've moved to an almost completely plant-based diet now, I was excited to order some of these for Christmas to see if they'd be anything like the non-veg kind. While there have been some amazing advancements in plant-based confectionery making, (including returning to the plant-based origin of a lot of traditional sweets) some of them still haven't quite got there, and it's usually chewy ones that miss the mark. (Cue flashback to some gummy bears we've tried, *shudders* ) These, however, are excellent, and the only real difference between them is having less of the 'hard-chew' that original wine-gums have. I'd recommend keeping them in the fridge if you prefer the original texture more, and if you don't mind them being cold. If you've tried soft-chewing liquorice and hard-chewing liquorice, that gives some idea of the difference I'm talking about. Overall, I highly recommend them and if you're wanting vegan wine gums but are worried about how they measure up to the originals, I'd say go for it. And, if you prefer softer chewing sweets, it may even be be a bonus for you
