Pineapple Cubes (AKA Pineapple Chunks)

Absolutely delicious, bit large if you hava a smaller mouth

A classic that almost needs no introduction, and I could just give it 5 stars and move on. BUT, while the gift-ee has got through bags of these in the past (they used to be his 'cinema-sweets' ) I have never tried one before as I'm not a fan of hard-boiled sweets. So, I will try to describe them for those like me who have also been living under a hard-boiled rock

As said, I'm not a fan of hard-boiled sweets so I was a little disappointed to find it had no 'give' whatsoever when first trying it. The flavour is delightful, it doesn't have the generic 'tropical' taste, it seems more one-note and more like pineapple rather than a tinned fruit salad The sweetness wasn't cloying as I expected, and while not sour, it has a good tang to it. I then understood why so many different people with different tastes have loved these for so long, because they don't taste like everything else. I mean, you KNOW it has to be sugary-bad-stuff but it somehow tastes more 'real' than a lot of other boiled sweets, certainly of its time. (And even though the flavour is from peaches )
THEN I realised why people keep going back for more and can get through loads of them; it started to soften a little, the sharp corners softened and rounded, the hard exterior became a crisp 'shell' that had a delightful crackle, at the centre of which was some kind of lovely chewy-honey-like substance.
Overall, as someone who doesn't like boiled sweets, I would still have one again in future because the flavour is great, the hard part is short-lived, and the centre is so nice that I'd want to experience it again
